All about

this Project

Research project funded by the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation in the framework of the action “Research-Create-Innovate”

The project “Digital Routes in the paths of Greek History” with the acronym RoGH and project code T1EDK-04393, is a research effort to capture part of Greek history in the world of Virtual Reality, offering the user the opportunity to make an experiential journey through historical course of Hellenism from antiquity to modern times.

The purpose of the project was to create a platform for the highlighting of important historical eras and events of Greek History in a journey through space and time. The platform offers the ability to accept digitized content and multimedia material (2D, 3D, Holograms) and to highlight them through a virtual reality system.

Through the project, representations were realized that include representations of monuments with full architectural detail and photorealistic real-time depictions. Their three-dimensional modeling was done with optimal performance for real-time photorealistic virtual reality masks.

This research has been co-financed by the European Union and Greek national funds through the Operational Program Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, under the call RESEARCH – CREATE – INNOVATE (project: Digital Roots in Greek History’s Paths, acronym: RoGH, code: T1EDK- 04393).

We have imagined

a story bond between

history & VR

The design of the central idea of this research effort was based on the creation of a new link between Greek History and virtual reality technology. Researchers at the Institute for Historical Studies of the National Research Foundation organized the content of the historical information in a way that could support this link, and the executives responsible for designing the virtual reality application took care of the Greek History & VR connection.

We have designed an

Immersive Experience

The main goal was to deliver an application with the maximum possible experiential experience for the end user through virtual reality masks. In this context, in addition to the basic application that contains all the historical information and the accompanying multimedia material, a highly game-centric version of the application was designed for the locations of Ouranoupolis (Ouranoupolis Tower) and Delos (House of Trident) where the user can to be transported in time and to live the experience of their daily life.

We have implemented

all  the above   into  a live

VR educational enviroment

The final result of the project is the creation of a tool for highlighting and integrating historical content in a virtual reality environment with final recipients the educational community and the field of culture. Especially for teachers, this tool is expected to develop into a dynamic and easy-to-use product to support the learning of Greek history using virtual reality masks that are expected to replace the current digital gaming machines and may attract more and more young people to the application. users who will love this innovative way of learning.
